Cages for small animals like rabbits, guinea pigs or ferrets have become quite upscale no longer do you have to settle for the plain wire cage. Take a look at this beautiful cage from an eBay auction that I found. He has many other styles to choose from.

It has a real asphalt roof and made from dried fir wood with tongue and groove joints.

No nails, glue and screws.
Fully weather treated.

It’s built for rabbits but you could use it for guinea pigs or ferrets too. Optional components to make the cage more fun for you pet make it the must have on your list. Your small pet will be the envy of the neighborhood.

Bird Feeder Memories

Jun 02 2009 Published by Mystique under Birds

I remember the times I would go to my Aunt and Uncle’s house for a lazy day visit with my son. They had several bird feeders on their property, to watch various feathery visitors. Hummingbird feeders lined the edge of the roof, standing bird feeders out in the front and backyards. I think they were addicted.

They had all the necessary equipment handy to get the full experience of bird-watching nothing fancy just binoculars and a bird book. This is one hobby you don’t need much money to support. Nearly everyone has binoculars and you can start with a book from the library and a loaf of bread.

If you find you enjoy watching the birds feed then you need to decide what type of bird feeder you would like to have: tray, hopper, or tube, and birdseed. That’s simple enough, of course you can always find a way to spend more, they make birder binoculars (they have built in digital cameras in them) for the high tech bird-watchers, wow.

We would sit in the front room and see mostly hummingbirds or the back room and see other colorful birds. My uncle would tell us what type of bird was feasting at the time and delight us in his stories of past bird visits and the strange habits some had.

Living in West Virginia there are many more colorful birds I didn’t see when I lived in California. They have these yellow birds I would see flying around and I was sure someone’s favorite pet had flown the coop, but no they are all over. You’ll have to ask my uncle what bird it is I have no idea!

But nothing was as strange as the first time a saw the goats roaming around loose on the mountain side. I drove to the police station to tell them of this incident, they told me not to worry they were so-and-so’s goats they go home every night. I think the city should pay the goats to keep the grass down.

Although I live in an apartment I’m thinking of putting out a little feeder out front, I’m not much into gardening or being outdoors. The wonderful person who lived here before me planted some tulips and those are nice to see in the spring.

The only obstacle to placing a bird feeder outside would be my cats banging their heads on the window trying to get to the birds; of course they would want outside for a closer look. I would feel guilty if the cats caught a bird for dinner, maybe I had better get a tomato plant instead. I can always open the window to water it.

Free Dog Food Coupons

Jun 02 2009 Published by Mystique under Dog Food

It never ceases to amaze me what you can find at auctions take for example free dog food coupons. Yes, people bid on dog food coupons ranging from 3 – 40 lbs worth of free dog chow.

I’ve watched bidders pay nearly the price the product was worth for free food coupons or baby products. Occasionally the same relates for dog food coupons. Armed with some knowledge this won’t happen to you.

The upside is you can get a bag for nearly half the price or less you’d pay at retail. The good stuff too! Brands like Pedigree, Eukanuba, (that’s just fun to say isn’t it) Purina, Natural Way, and Nutro. PS you can find cat food coupons too.

The dog food coupons can come singularly or by the packs of coupons example “12 Coupons $3 off 14lb+ bag of your favorite brand Dog or Cat food. You pay $3.75 you get $36.00 bucks worth of dog food coupons in return.

Tips for getting a good buy…

1. Watch the expiration date.
2. Make sure the brand is carried in your area.
3. Make sure you animal will eat that brand of dog food before you buy it, a 40 lb. bag of unused dog food is not cool.
6. Make sure you are bidding on real coupons not Internet coupons or copies.
7. Check the retail price and don’t over bid, if the dog food price is $37.00 at the store and the bid is up to 36.50 let it go.
8. Most importantly read the feedback of the seller make sure they have positive feedback.

Technically you are not bidding on the dog food coupons, they are free but the time it took the person to find and clip the coupons. Shipping is generally cheap after all it is just paper.

So if you had no idea you could find free (cheap) bags of dog food at eBay! then I’m glad I could help!

Koi Pond’s Most Popular Fish

Jun 02 2009 Published by Mystique under Fish

When you are in the early planning stages of your pond, you should begin to plan what type of fish you would like in your “water garden”. As the name implies, koi will certainly be among the mix and most likely the jewels of your pond. These fish with their varied colors, hearty disposition, and serene demeanor can often grow to be two to three feet long!

Koi come in many varieties, your pond may concentrate on a single type or embrace many varieties. The most popular of the koi family are the Kohaku koi. Their white body and red accent pattern on the back can identify these koi. The Taisho-sanke Koi are also a white koi, but have both red and black accents. Similarly the Showa-sanke koi are a black-bodied koi with red and white accents. Many different types of koi based on their body color and accents are identified and add a rainbow of color to a backyard pond.

The metallic koi have a distinctive shine to them, almost as if covered in metal scales. These koi tend to be grouped based on how many colors they display. The Hikaimuji Koi display one color and include the golden Yamabuki Ogon and silver Gin Matsuba to name a couple.

A more recently introduced type of koi is known as the Butterfly Koi. Some purists are not particularly enamored with the long butterfly fins that have been crossbred into this collection of koi, but many fans believe they are truly the most graceful of the koi family. Some have even stated that the Butterfly Koi are hardier fish than their non-butterfly cousins. Butterfly Koi are available in most all the same types as standard koi.

As for the other types of fish you might want to round out your koi pond, much will be influenced on the climate and condition of your pond. Koi are hearty fish and can survive though a wide variety of water temperatures. Not so with many other variety of fish. The most common fish to cohabitate with koi are goldfish. It is important to note that koi are not goldfish nor are they related to them. They are more closely related to carp.
Want to start a koi pond but don’t know how? The folks over at Koi Fish Pond’s Made Easy will help you get started. Once you have your pond ready you can find koi and the necessities they need at Top Pet Pics eBay Auction.

Cat Climber

Jun 02 2009 Published by Mystique under Cats, Products

Problem, cats love to climb so your kitty uses your couch as a tree post racing up and down ruining your favorite nesting spot. Save the furniture buy a cat climber instead, it will save you the cost of a new set of slipcovers.

Cat climbers come in many varieties you can buy high and low; the term the sky’s limit can refer to cat climber, ranging from a few feet high to 5 1/2 feet, higher if you go custom-built. Most are wrapped with sisal or extra strength carpet for scratching. You will find that your cat climber is made with a neutral color palette that goes with any décor.

For the truly crafty person you can build your own using pre-made cat climber plans, naturally if you build your own you can match to your taste. Another alternative would be covering the perch of your cat climber with holiday fabric for the different seasons hey, why not?

Cat climbers may include a hammock, a hiding spot, playful swinging and swiping toys and trees (climbing posts). Or for the more relaxed cat a cat condo with a sleeping hole or two will do, but your little couch cat potato may turn into a wild beast once given the opportunity to explore the nooks and crannies of fully blown kitty deluxe cat climber.

Multi-cats? Get a multi-cat climber, read the fine print, make sure the cat climber you buy supports more than one cat at a time. You don’t want your cat climber to topple over although the say cats land on their feet your plasma TV might be another story. I plan to buy a cat climber for my two cats Sonic and Bella, but I imagine Slinky the dog (who thinks he’s a cat) sneaking his way in there somehow.

Own a condo or plan to buy one? Leave a comment and let me know how your cat likes it, or what type you are considering.  You can find a cat climber at PETCO.com (hint look under cat furniture) or try the Top Pet Pics Auction
